Westside Optometry Issue No. 49

“Enhancing lives with personalized vision care”
Dear Karen,
I hope you enjoy this Back to School issue. I’ve included an article that was recently released by the California Optometric Association about children’s vision and behavior. Studies on this topic have been done for decades with the same conclusion; poor visual ability at school can negatively affect a child’s success and future. Every child needs an eye examination.
Our Fall trunk show is this weekend. Come by Saturday to see the beautiful glasses and sunglasses.

Is there a link between vision and behavior?

The back-to-school season is the time to make sure your child is fully prepared and ready to take on the challenges of school. Perhaps the most overlooked, yet immensely important part of that preparation is the all-important vision examination. There is a very strong relationship between vision and learning, as well as vision and behavior in the classroom.

Vision Screenings
A vision screening can give parents a false sense of security. When a screening reports that a child is seeing 20/20, parents often assume that no further exam is needed and fail to ever take the child for a comprehensive eye examination. To learn more about the difference between a screening and an examination click here.
Some vision screenings test for visual acuity only, but don’t determine whether the eyes are able to work together. Eye coordination is important inside and outside of the classroom.
